The house is a new 6,800 SF suburban ground-up residence in a commuting town in New Jersey. Situated within the wooded neighborhood, the owner had asked MSA for a sculptural piece surrounded by privacy and nature. Facing the façade, you see this distinction through the use of materials. The mass is broken up with select areas of pop-out spaces, reflecting the various programs inside the structure, creating dramatic cantilevers along the back side of the home. The upper volume is clad in a vertical ipe rainscreen while the lower level is grounded by the stone-like color of the fiber cement boards. All utilitarian program runs along the outside walls of the envelope, opening up the interior to a free plan. Upon entering the home, the space acts as a place for viewing, where all rooms are punctured with views toward the woods. Ultimately, the backyard opens up beneath the two cantilevers, opening the decks out to the wooded view and creek beyond.
