The Last of a Historic Row of Park Avenue Townhouses Gets a Modern Reinvention

Murdock Solon Architects is performing an extensive remodel of one of the last remaining 19th-century townhouses on Manhattan’s storied Park Avenue. Once completed, the renovation will have fully modernized and expanded the townhouse into an 8-story, 5-bedroom house with media room, temperature-controlled wine cellar, study with wet bar, and 2-story glass penthouse containing the master bedroom suite, rooftop lounge, and terrace overlooking Park Avenue. In addition, the basement will have a spa area with a gym, steam shower, and sauna.

The redesign reimagines the traditional townhouse plan, splitting the floors into multiple tiers, which allows for more connected living and entertaining. A sweeping grand staircase with a custom brass handrail is naturally illuminated from the large skylight above. Additionally, large window walls bring daylight into the bedrooms on the rear of the property.

A careful historic restoration of the Landmarked Queen Anne style facade will enliven the townhouse’s distinguished character and its unique place on Park Avenue.
