Murdock Solon Architects Featured in Architectural Record for Innovative Design of Cabin Edit’s SoHo Studio

Murdock Solon Architects is honored to be featured in the April 2025 issue of Architectural Record, recognized for our distinctive design of Cabin Edit’s New York studio. This editorial feature underscores our continued commitment to creating environments where form meets function—spaces that are as refined as they are purposeful.

Located in the heart of SoHo, the 5,000-square-foot studio occupies the top floor of a meticulously renovated five-story loft. The project reflects our long-standing expertise in designing post-production studios, with Cabin Edit marking nearly a dozen completed projects for leading video and sound editing firms.

Our approach to Cabin Edit’s space centered on the integration of comfort, privacy, and community. Sensitive to the nuanced needs of post-production professionals—who frequently handle high-profile, confidential material—we prioritized spatial clarity and acoustic control. Edit bays and offices were placed around the perimeter, ensuring discretion and quiet focus. Yet at the heart of the layout is something less expected: a café-style lounge and generously appointed kitchen, conceived not merely as ancillary amenities but as integral elements of the studio’s ethos.

Warmth and elegance are expressed through material choices and artisanal detailing—travertine countertops, walnut-framed rattan partitions, Venetian plaster, and custom cabinetry imbue the interiors with a refined, Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere. These elements were not only chosen for their visual harmony but for their ability to soften the traditional boundaries of a workplace. The result is a studio that evokes the comfort and intimacy of an upscale residence while maintaining the structure and sophistication required by a world-class production team.
