Murdock Solon Architects broke ground at the Kings Highway project this week. Led by Principle-in-Charge Shea Murdock, shown above, the 68,000-square-foot commercial development will be an anchor at the evolving neighborhood in Gravesend, Brooklyn.
To take advantage of the site’s visibility from the elevated subway lines, the design addresses the two main programs of commercial office space and retail space with dynamically intersecting volumes. The play between the programs is further expressed through use of glazing on the lower retail floors versus a more solid precast concrete panel/ masonry construction on the upper office floors. The 5-story new construction takes cues from the neighboring building heights while exploring facade patterns to weave into the local existing fabric.
