Kings Highway Commercial Development in Brooklyn

A Play on Intersections in Brooklyn

We recently completed a dynamic new commercial development at the energetic intersection of Kings Highway in Brooklyn. This 84,000-square-foot area of commercial development is now an anchor in the evolving neighborhood of Gravesend.

To take advantage of the site’s visibility from the elevated subway lines, the design addresses the two main programs of commercial office space and retail space with dynamically intersecting volumes. The play between the programs is further expressed through the use of glazing on the lower retail floors versus more solid terracotta and aluminum panels on the upper office floors.

To help best blend in with the neighborhood’s original heritage, the 5-story structure sits back from the streets, and the lower volume associates with the neighboring building heights while exploring facade patterns to weave into the local existing scale.
